Reading with fluency and comprehension are paramount in helping your child read with ease and automaticity. Becoming a fluent reader takes a lot of directed practice. Included in your Back to School Handbook is a bookmark that lists the steps we want your child to use every time he/she reads. The steps are as follows: monitor, clarify, predict, summarize, evaluate. Once your child has learned to do these steps each and every time, he/she will be more actively involved in his/her reading and learning. How to Take a Story Quiz Bookmark
You may find the following charts helpful when your child is having difficulty spelling a word. They will help your child narrow the choices and select the correct spelling pattern. Excluding the pictures, they are very similar to our SIPPS chart that is used in our room. The following charts are from Cherry Carl, a retired resource teacher. Her site is full of amazing ideas that she gladly shares with everyone free of charge (She also sells a lot of super ideas, kits, books, you name it!). Her website address is below as well.
