Accelerated Reader

RequirementsTop of Page

An important goal for your child is to be able to read with fluency (just right speed) and comprehension. Fluency and comprehension go hand in hand. If your child is reading too slowly, it's likely that he/she will not remember what has been read by the time the story is finished. To help your child improve in both of these areas, your child will read our story of the week and choose one or two books from our library that are part of the Accelerated Reader program. Prior to checking out these books, your child will complete an online assessment that evaluates your child's current reading level (ZPD: zone of proximal development). There are many books for every level in Gladstone's Library available for check-out. Once your child has finished reading the book with understanding (at least 4 times), he/she will take an online assessment.  Assessments can no longer be done at home. However, time will be provided during school hours. There is also a website that will identify whether or not books in your child's library have a current quiz in the Accelerated Reader  program. Quiz numbers are also listed for reference.

Improving our students' reading ability and comprehension is our main focus. Quizzes should be completed with 90% accuracy and our end of the year goal for every student is to have a ZPD or reading level at 3.0 (Grade 3) or higher. Student points for each trimester will be based on invididual student needs.

Click on the link below and you will be able to see your child's quiz results, the points earned, and the books your child has read. As your child advances from year to year, it will be a record of all the books that he/she has read! The username and password are your child's regular codes that he/she uses at school. You also have an option to have an email sent every time your child completes a quiz. The AR Bookfinder listed above can also be accessed on this page.
