Homework Contract

Homework is to provide independent practice on material introduced and revisited in class.  It is used by the teacher to evaluate the student's understanding of the California State Standards covered in class.  Homework also serves another purpose, to allow the student to become self-disciplined.  For many children, homework is the first time they have a responsibility of their own.  It is up to them to bring it home, to do the work, and to see that the work gets back to school.  Through homework, children learn skills they must develop if they are to grow to be independent, motivated, and successful adults.  Finally, homework is also used as an aid in test preparation and as an opportunity for parent involvement in the learning process.

The following table is an explanation of the cumulative consequences for failure to complete homework. The cumulative nature of the homework table starts over each trimester.
